The Wallet Roots
Dr. Orly Livny PhD, RD, a nutrition expert active in the field of nutritional
education, realized though her years of experience that the main problems
patients with weight issues face are food quantities and food choices. Based on
this understanding, Dr. Livny created the “food wallet" which offers an
efficient way of monitoring food intake and maintaining a long term nutritional
balance, based on individual dietary goals (personal aims and physical
condition). The wallet contains colored "food bills" representing the different
food groups. The number of cards included in the wallet is predetermined based
on the user's goals, such as weight loss or maintenance. Each card lists the
food options within the specific food group as well as the portion sizes, and
the user can choose any of the options listed while paying attention to amounts.
The wallet is divided into two pockets: the “before” pocket and the “after”
pocket. At the start of each day, the "before" pocket is full of “food bills"
that make up the “daily budget” of food. Each time the user eats something, a
bill is moved to the "after" pocket. When all the bills in the “before” pocket
have been moved to the “after” pocket, then the user has reached the maximum
“daily budget” of food. The user can monitor the cards transferred from pocket
to pocket, and based on the remaining cards can plan the meals for the rest of
the day. Every day is a new day and all the cards are placed in the “before”
pocket.
